St Matthews Rep Payee Program
Aug. 20, 2019
Katie Reese will come tell us about the St Matthews Rep Payee Program. Saint Matthew’s Representative Payee Program is an outreach ministry of St. Matthew’s Episcopal church in Newton, Kansas. The program helps clients achieve self sufficiency by attending to clients’ basic expenses that would otherwise be left unpaid. Without the program’s service, our clients would undoubtedly incur late fees, indebtedness, poor credit, homelessness and more unemployment. The program empowers their clients to reach their goals. The program has been a ministry of St Matthews for twenty years and serves approximately 140 clients, and typically on Tuesday mornings 40-50 clients are present at the church. Their policy to try to fulfill any client financial wish during the upcoming week, so clients can have access to whatever it is they believe they really need to purchase using their own money. |

Bombs and Explosives
Feb. 04, 2020
Our program for Tuesday evening will be presented by Newton Fireman Andy Harder.
The dangers in this world are growing faster every day and the ability for bad people to inflict extreme damage has become extremely easy. To address these dangers Andy recently attended a four-day training in Socorro, New Mexico to learn about explosive materials and how to protect the community. This class is designed to teach first responders how to recognize explosive materials, how they work, why they work, and the steps taken to address a dangerous situation involving explosives. Not only did Andy learn how to recognize components of bomb-making but he also was able to see first hand the destructive power a small device can have and the impact that it would have on a community. It's sad to imagine this horrible possibility but we as a community need to be prepared for this type of threat.
