Mental Health
Sep. 07, 2021
I met Gena Richardson through Rotary youth exchange. She is a licenensed psychotherapist and is active in Rotary promoting mental health awareness through their "Don't bottle it up" campaign. She has actively participated in many beauty pageants and holds several titles. She has found that these pageants off her a platform that further her cause while allowing her to be a mentor for goodness to younger future leaders. Gena has a "glow" about her. While she has striking beauty - the more you get to know her the more you realize her true gift is what's on the inside and her drive for making the world a better place is the gift she gives to her peers. Gena is a southern girl - she will mesmerize you with her southern accent. She is fun to be around and you will appreciate her humorous wit.

Using SCUBA for Rehabilitation Real Stories
Nov. 02, 2021
https://www.diveheart.org/ This will be a very intereting program. Even though I have been certified to dive since I was 20, I never imagined the SCUBA therapy could be so beneficial to those with disabilities. People with disabilities have been proving for years that very few activities are off-limits. And whether or not an individual has a disability, many activities can offer physical, psychological and emotional benefits. Scuba diving, research has shown, offers special benefits for veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder and spinal cord injuries, as well as benefits for individuals with autism and other disabilities. Hear real life stories at this Newton Rotary Club meeting. As a preamble to the meeting, I have posted the website for this not-for-profit organization in this post. I met Jim Elliott in Houston last month at the Rotary Zone meeting. This is another example of how a Rotarian is using Rotary to change the world one life at a time. Rod Kreie |

Oceans of Kansas
Jan. 04, 2022
Mike has done a lifetime of research that went into his book "Oceans of Kansas". In Oceans of Kansas Everhart discusses the state of the land during the Late Cretaceous and earlier, when the area was covered with the marine waters of the Western Interior Seaway, particularly focusing on the record of the Niobrara Cycle of the Seaway as exposed in central Northwestern Kansas (e.g., Trego and Gove Counties). The geologic record shows that ancient lifeforms such as marine reptiles, pteranodons, and toothed birds inhabited the general area both in and out of the water. .

Human Trafficking - a world perspective
Feb. 15, 2022
Karin F***** is a long-time member of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Lawrence, KS, who served for many years as worship leader, member of the praise team, coordinator of their Family Promise program rotation, and in various other capacities as needed. She worked at Lawrence Memorial Hospital for 23 years as an Emergency nurse, and later developed their Patient Advocacy program and served as Patient Advocate for 4 years, before moving to Nepal in 2014. In Nepal, she is the head of her organization’s Women at Risk Initiative, and fights human trafficking through awareness education and empowerment programming aimed at strengthening education and income opportunities for girls, women, and the most vulnerable in society. Current programs include an ongoing scholarship program for 75 at-risk village children in 2 villages, a women’s group who earn income making washable, reusable, eco-friendly sanitary pad kits for free distribution to girls in the village schools, a “Basics of Business” course that is helping women in the village start small businesses of their own, and more. Her mission is to create a safe Nepal, where people can live lives free of human trafficking, and other forms of marginalization and exploitation. She also has a passion for sharing the light and love of Jesus to those around her, through her life and work. |
